The Belleek Shamrock pattern is over 100 years old. The pattern was designed by Michael Maguire. Maguire was a very talented and famous basket weaver in the 1880s. Made of Irish clay, using traditional methods, each piece features a raised basket effect with hand-painted green shamrocks, the national symbol of Ireland. The white luster base and green shamrocks reflects a lifelike feeling of an Irish countryside.
Belleek Shamrock is one of the finest crafts from Ireland. Because this pattern hasn't changed over the years, the newer pieces you acquire will completely blend with the older ones in your collection. From the very beginning, the Belleek pottery company always insisted on only allowing the very finest pieces to be sold to the public. From the 1820s on, whenever a piece has even the smallest flaw, it is destroyed, rather than taint the Belleek tradition of excellence.
