In the early years of the twentieth century, Raphael Tuck and Sons created holiday cards that were known for their whimsy and creative genius. The most popular of the series are the famous Tuck Halloween postcards. In the days before cell phones and the Internet, postcards were sent to friends near and far to commemorate holidays.
The Tuck Halloween postcards not only sent greetings of the season, but also featured artwork suitable to display and collect. Fanciful Halloween motifs such as villainous smiling red devils wielding pitchforks were popular. Watermelon cars, mischievous young boys, and skinny witches abounded.
