The hand painted pattern was created for the European Rothschild family in the 1820s. The Bird pattern tells a story which is portrayed by 12 different painted motifs.
In the 19th century, Baroness Rothschild claimed to have lost her pearl necklace in her garden. Her gardener found it several days later; when he returned it to the baroness she asked where he had found it. The gardener told her that he had seen several birds playing with it up in a tree.
