The Limoges region of France was well known for the production of Limoges porcelain. This elaborately decorated porcelain was first produced in the late 1700’s. Production of the highly elaborate pieces continued until around 1920. At that time, the elaborate designs of Limoges porcelain changed to a more basic style.
A jardinière is an ornamental pot for plants or flowers. The word originates from the French word jardinière, meaning, gardener. Most jardinières are elaborately decorated with colorful flowers and Limoges jardinières are no exception. The porcelain pieces produced by Limoges are considered antiques and are true works of art. The flowers on Limoges jardinières are hand painted with beautiful colors. Many pieces are trimmed in gold leaf.
